Assembly '03 is coming closer. Will I have a track for the instrumental compo? I sure hope so. I've got only one finished candidate so far and it's going to need more work into it if I'm really making it my entry.
Meanwhile there's plenty of new (or at least unannounced) stuff in the demodir so you might want to check it out. I've done two remixes of sorts - I've sampled the original and got a big beat / lounge groove type of thing going with them. The other one is "Let The Rain Fall" (rainfall3.ogg) and the other is "Kirjoituksia" (kirjoituksia5.ogg). The former isn't finished, the latter pretty much is. Then there's Stonewall 1969 (stonewall4.ogg) which I just started. I noticed some very easy-to-sample drum parts in "Angels Go Bald, Too" and "Sky Is Broken" and tried to use the results. The song has a slightly quirky progression to it, I guess it's something new I'm trying. (Progressive electronica, maybe?) We'll see how it turns out - hopefully better than it is now, so as to respect the memory of the Stonewall Riots. Also notice the dominant beat that tries to sound like something other than a classic four on the floor.
Next up is "Yeah Ok" (yeah ok.ogg) - I was aiming for a lazy hiphop feel and I suppose I got it at least close to right. I could upload a new version of that but... well, dunno. Then we have Skyline (skyline.ogg) that only has like three or four patterns but I couldn't upload it that short so I copy-pasted them in Sound Forge and added a distortion effect into it there. You could say this is the first time I've arranged a song in a pure audio editor.
One last track, "Story Untold" (untold2.ogg). My original idea was to do a simple and straightforward poppish track that would rival country/western music or Finnish pop music in its unintelligence (much like "Today" [today.ogg]). But, as "Today" did, this track also got some unorthodox vibes going and that ended up in the minor part after 1:20 and the use of the mda Thruzero VST effect. Well... Why not, it's my music so I can do whatever I want with it, right?
I really think I should finish some of these. Especially "Today", because even though it is sort of silly, I still like it. "Story Untold" doesn't really capture the atmosphere that "Today" has, but it's similar.
