This newspost will begin a series of newsposts under the heading "Saboteur's Biased World News". I intend to reiterate and comment on news gathered from all around the world, on any relevant or irrelevant topic.
In an utterly unprecedented fit of idiocy, the leader of the free world, president George W. Bush of the United States of America has declared that he intends to push through legislation that defines marriage as a bond between man and woman. If there never really has been a clear and concise reason for feeling a certain antipathy towards mr. Bush (we can't really hate him just because his articulation leaves ever so much to be desired, can we?) - you know, besides the fiasco that is his War on Terrorism - then now we have it.
Fortunately, he'll face an uphill battle. A recent polling by the Wall Street Journal and NBC suggests that 53% of Americans are ready to give up medieval conceptions of marriage and allow civil marriage for same-sex couples. What's best of all, however, is that as you may know, recently the Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to outlaw homosexual relationships. In June 2003 the supreme court overthrew anti-homosexual laws in 13 states. That's a far cry from legalizing same-sex marriage, but maybe it will be a deterrent for attempts on outlawing it.
As one Joseph Wood Krutch once put it: "There is no conceivable human action which custom has not at one time justified and at another condemned."
