I recently upgraded my rig to get the most out of this years upcoming great PC titles. The ones I'm most looking forward to are Civilization 5: Gods & Kings expansion and of course Diablo III (linking to my fansites of choice on both). Having skipped Vista, I went straight to a 64bit Windows7 with 8gb ram, Intel i5-2400 quadcore and GeForce 560GTX. This was back in december, mind, so I expect processorwise you can probably already find better value in some other model - but just wanted to share.
Why the post now if I already upgraded in december then? Well, it was finally time to say goodbye to crunchy sounds coming from all the wrong places. Having started out with a 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS solid-state drive for bootup and whatever else I could fit on it, I really came to enjoy the silent, low-power and blazing fast operation that an SSD provides.
Today I installed a 256gb Samsung 830 series on the side and finally yanked the cord out of the old buzzsaw that was my I-couldn't-tell-you-how-many-years-old hard drive. Consider making the switch - I'm liking it.
As a closing remark - and I assure you they don't pay me to do this - if you're wondering who to trust when doing research for your PC buying needs, I can happily recommend the articles over at Tom's Hardware.
