Khade posted this in the oneliner and I realized that the answer would be so long that it would be pointless to try and reply to it there. Here's the original post:
[ Jan 26 2003 ] Khade : What dif. types did Inertia Player play?(v1.2 -94)
Let's get this part straight. I was like 9 years old at the time in question, and even though I have done my fair bit of research and have an unusually oldskoolish attitude towards the history of tracking and demoscene (and I actually sincerely enjoy all of it! hell, I have a C64) my knowledge is limited at times.
Now, on to the answer. Gravis Ultrasound was my first soundcard as far as I can remember, and I remember it shipped with Inertia Player (dunno the version) and four (three?) .MODs. That was actually my first contact with MODs (although I have no idea what year this was). At the time, however, I of course didn't know what MODs were, really - I just listened to the bunch in the package.
I never really used Inertia Player for anything, because when I started learning about tracking it was all nuskool stuff (ST3, FT2, IT) and SIDs, for example, were unknown to me until much later.
Having said all this, I'm answering .MOD. As in Protracker and god knows what, there were a bunch, weren't there. If it played anything else, I don't know about it. Looking at the year mentioned it's likely that it could also play Scream Tracker modules (from the relevant versions - 1, 2 and 3?).
Now, the part I want to know is... Why did you ask that and why did you mention a specific version? Were you testing me or did you know the slightest bit of what you were asking about?
I'll update this post when I search the web for a proper and decisive answer.
Edit: Looks like my assessment was somewhat correct. Anything up to (but not including) Extended Modules is within its capabilities.

Well the question was not an test... i really needed that information - yesterday i fixed up my old 486 SX 33mhz computer.. And i tested it and from some dark place in my mind a program "Iplay" came to my mind.. so i installed it, and spotted these are tracker "songs" i spotted atleast 2 dif. types s3m and mod.
I did ask this question at the irc from the channel no-one of us could belive.. from an RPG channel there came an answer that i couldnt handle... "Insertia player must have played all filetypes in that time" ( this is why i put the year after the version ). Im really looking forward to get new tracker songs to my 486 computer but i cant download any if i dont know which the insertia player can play.
So yeah, this is kinda useless cos i could use some newer prog. from my other computer, but its from 1994 and i didnt know a shit about these things then ( yeah and i know so much now - lol ) and it kinda reminds me from my childhood... Its like going back to the times when you had bigbrother bullying you and all was fine and cool.
I have done so much work to get this thing back to work ( like trying to remember the right unpack command in arj < arj e "wherefrom" "where to" -r -t -vva > making the whole system work, and finally asking help from you guys ).
I have won the battle, i still have bleeding wounds, but i will survive...
So the final answer to you, i knew something - but not enough at all. And why from here, i though maybe some of your "tracker friends" ( or something ) could know the answer - thats why i didnt ask it from you at IRC.

I don't think Inertia Player really was that accurate. Actually, no player could ever be as accurate as the original tracker, so out of respect for the authors of the mods and out of my desire to hear the mods at their optimized quality, I always used the original tracker for appopriate mods. Well, tried to, anyway.
On that notion I'd like to say that if you want to listen to modules, get FT2 (for XM playback - and why not some mods too) and IT (for STM/S3M/IT playback).
IT might require more CPU power than the 486 can offer (hell, FT2 probably will, at least for the newer mods) but it's still worth trying. When I was an avid FT2 tracker I was very touchy about people listening to my mods with Cubic Player, for example. Mostly for good reason, sometimes "just because"... But if you want maximum enjoyment, go for the real thing.
Edit: Speaking of the real thing, www.modarchive.com is the obvious place to go. Unlike the late Trax In Space, that place actually has a lot of historical mods in there.
