When I first opened the forum, there was something of a race for the highest post count. I created a statistics analyzer to redefine that race, to change it's objective: Not to spam with the highest amount of posts, but to spam with the longest posts. To evaluate the potential quality of posts better, instead of mere quantity. Everybody seems to be falling for it (hell, myself included), but at least we get more content.

You can find the script here:
http://www.saboteurweb.com/pagedata/utilit.../forumstats.php

As of this writing the average message length on the forum is 481 characters, at a total of 105,769 characters spread over 220 posts.

The accuracy of the script is very high. Before evaluating characters, all HTML tags and such are stripped from the posts, leaving only the actual text to be counted. Signatures are also disregarded.

You may notice that the post count of users on this forum may be different from the numbers seen in the statistics script. In case you're wondering which to trust, you should trust the statistics script. This forum doesn't reduce the post count of users when I delete posts.

UPDATED 6.11.2002: Now quotes are also ignored when counting post lengths so you won't get "bonus" characters for quoting others.

Chade wanted to know how many of his threads were about our LAN parties. I told him I was too lazy to go through the posts but I could write a script to find out. And I did.

The script indexes topics according to who started them.
