I had a brief chance to visit The Assembly again this year, so here are some thoughts. It seems that I've developed a pattern to visit the party every two years, being there in 2001, 2003 and now in 2005, although without a computer place this time. I was there from late saturday evening to early sunday morning, and had a chance to witness two of the most interesting compos, the 64k Intro and the realtime Demo compo.

The compos were quite a mixed bag with a few somewhat failed pieces, a couple of slightly unimpressive ones and a few really good ones. This time I didn't feel like any particular piece stood out miles above the competition, but I enjoyed the compos quite a bit on the whole. Always nice to visit, and it somewhat rekindled that fire in my heart to get on that big screen (which wasn't quite as big as one would have hoped!) someday. It was inspiring to see the art put together by sceners, and it reminded me of some of the things that I seem to have forgotten about in my own art.
